Mac Mini (2012) HDMI losing sync (blank screen/snow)

Looks like my mini has the HDMI issue that others have reported on the macrumors forums as well as here.

Mine exhibits the blank screen/snow issue ONLY when the HDMI port is used. This happens with HDMI->DVI adapter and also with pure HDMI cabling.

With the same screen, mini and DVI cable this does not occur.

This is a fresh Mini 2012 Server i7 model.

Do I need to report this in an official capacity somewhere (this is only the second ever apple hardware fault I've encountered in twenty years). Should I just be patient for a possible fix (as I don't need the hdmi port

I've had my Mac Mini Late 2012 for 5 months, didn't have any HDMI connection problems until AFTER the 10.8.3 update. Now, my screen flickers, goes black, or has 'white fuzz' very frequently, and it is extremely frustrating to do any work. I bought a thunderbolt-HDMI connector and tried connecting the monitor that way, but same problems persist. This is with my Samsung Syncmaster SA300. It works fine with my LG TV through the HDMI and thunderbolt connection...no sync problems or white fuzz. I think I may restore from time machine to before the update and hope that works the problem out. I wonder if Apple has had a lot of Mac Mini complaints since the 10.8.3 update was released?

I just bought the latest Macmini on Mar-2013 with the latest updated 10.8.3 Boot Rom: MM61.0106.B03 still have this screen flickering and snow screen problems. I have replace the HDMI to DVI cable (without adapter straight cable), it is better at least I can use the equitment but the problems still exist. If I connect with HDMI to HDMI the problem is gone! Had contact Apple waiting for the FIX.

I just received my Late 2012 Mac Mini: 2.6 i7, 16 gb RAM, 1 TB Fusion drive, etc.

I have this issue, and it is seriously annoying. Using a brand new Philips Gioco 27" display, and I can confirm that neither my connected cable box nor PS3 exhibit the issue, so it is DEFINITELY a Mac Mini problem.

I went ahead and ordered a 6' Thunderbolt-HDMI connector to see if this fixes the issue for me.

The bottom line is that this is completely unacceptable, and Apple needs to issue a legitimate fix for this ASAP.

I'm about to take delivery of a mini in about a week. I've been reading some of these video problem threads and am starting to wonder if I should tell Apple to keep it. My concern is it's a hardware problem which is why the fix is taking so long. I was happily switching from Windows to Mac but the persistence of this issue is concerning me. Any advice?

My macmini vidoe issues were largely fixed with the firmware update. The only issue I had since then was the crushing white lines in any open finder window. The workaround for me was to use a menubar app called "Shady".

I've had Mac OS X 10.8.3 update installed for 1 week now and it has elimnated my issues with the crushing white lines in the finder windows...I can now see the blue background lines.

For me all outstanding video issues have been resolved on my 2012 macmini ;-)

Thanks again Apple!

Me too on my HP w2408h. I've had my Mac Mini Late 2012 for 4 months, didn't have any HDMI connection problems until AFTER the 10.8.3 update. Now, my screen flickers, goes black, or has 'white fuzz' very frequently, and it is extremely frustrating.

Please, we need a fix to this problem in the next update.

UPDATE: my memory manufacturer ID is 0x855D. ¿Is this manufacturer OWC?

bobmepp - I've been putting up with this behavior for WAY too long awaiting a fix from Apple. This issue is unacceptable and most disappointing as Apple appears to be dragging their feet in getting this major issue resolved. I have been unable to use my awesome Apple 27" Cinema Dispaly monitor ever since I received the Mac Mini 2012 model. It is truly annoying that Apple's own products don't work together even though they advertise they do. Don't believe them. The Thunderbolt attached Cinema Display monitor does not work with the Mac Mini 2012 Thunderbolt port. I get by using a Gateway hdmi monitor which works fine but is not my preference. I reported this issue to Apple 4 months ago and have received na-da from Apple on the status of the issue or any work arounds. No wonder Apple stock is tanking. LOL - very unhappy customer.

Advice: If you purchase a MAC Mini 2012, don't plan on using the Thunderbolt port for your display.

One more thing.... I've seen a few posts about memory being the cause of this issue. Really? I would be surprised if memory were the cause since the issue exists no matter what kind of memory you have installed in the MAC Mini. I specificity ordered Apple memory in hopes of avoiding any incompatibility issues.

From my experience, memory is not the issue with the HDMI problem. I have used in my 2012 Mini, Apple, OWC and Kingston Memory and this problem existed in each case. Memory is an issue with the Thunderbolt Display turning off randomly and that problem appears to be caused by those who upgraded using OWC memory.
