what does a placeholder do?

Am I stupid or does it really do nothing you couldn't do without it?

place holders can contain text, video, sound, table, cart or shapes

In keynote, if there are no placeholders on a slide nothing would be visible except the back ground

Their purpose is to hold a specific type of content (a text holder cant contain a sound file)

they can be placed acurately anywhere on the slide

they make it easy to organise different types of content on the slide

they create content in different layers just like transparencies on an overhead projector or in Photoshop

each layer can be placed and rearranged in a particular order

they allow builds to be created to show animations

in the example below, there are four layers in order of ;

layer 4 - white text

layer 3 - red triangle

layer 2 - blue square

layer 1 - grey background
