can magnets negatively affect an ipad
I have an Ipad3 16gb and I was wondering if I could use a magnetic holder/handle to attach to the outer case so that I may have a steady rig to shoot video from.

The Apple Smart Cover and many other iPad covers use magnets to lock and unlock the iPad screen when the cover is in place or when it is removed. I didn't realize that the device had this many magnets inside. This is very interesting.
Based on this information, I think that you would be OK.
