Can iBooks remember my page between devices? Can I pick up where I left off on my iPad with my iPhone?

With Kindle and the Kindle app, if I change devices I am asked if I want to resume reading where I left off on <device> at <date and time>. I was trying to continue reading on my phone where I left off on my iPad. I have been unable to do this. Is it possible? I will decide which service to use for my next book purchase (the cost is the same on both Kindle and iBooks).
