Install of App from MAS fails with an unkown error

Hi all

I took the plunge a few weeks ago and bought a refurbished 27" imac from apple. Previous to that I've been a PC user but growing increasingly frustrated with windows. Already owning an iphone and ipad and being very impressed, I placed my order. I am over the moon with the imac and have never looked back.

I've come up against my first issue. I've got mountain lion 10.8.2 installed and have just purchased the new angry birds star wars. However it downloaded but failed to install stating an "unknown error".

The purchases tab of MAS has the install button but every time I click, it fails with the same error

I've confirmed that I'm signed into the app store, I only have one apple id so it's not that I'm signed in on the wrong one. I've closed down the MAS and restarted the computer but still having the same issue

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time.

Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.

Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

Many thanks for the prompt reply, and thanks also for providing step by step instructions for a mac newbie in opening Console.

I'm quite surprised by what I've found (or not to be precise), there isn't a single mention of this app in the log. I can see the entries for GTA that I paused the update on but nothing for Angry Birds. I've tried using the Find command but can't find anything for that app. I've posted a dump as requested though:

Still nothing, but I've managed to solve it. Thank you so much for your help, it is very much appreciated 😎

Just for completeness, in case anyone else has this problem this is how I solved it.

I e-mailed apple support who sent me links to generic FAQ's which didn't help. They also told me to contact the developer which I did. I did think however that this was an issue with my machine or the app store.

I couldn't re-download the file because it was already downloaded and it would not install. I thought if I could delete the file that had been downloaded and re-download that might help in case the download was corrupted.

I enabled the debugging menu on the app store by running the following command in terminal

"defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true"

I then chose the option from the debugging menu to view the download file location

I eventually found a downloaded package exactly the same size that the app was so I assumed that was the correct one

I moved it to the trash

Restarted the app store and hey presto, it downloaded and installed no problem at all

I'm guessing the download had become corrupted

Thanks again for your help

Cheers
