iPad screen brightness won’t turn up

My iPad screen is dimming for no reason. I can somewhat see the apps, but barely. I forced it to shut down, turned it back on and it was fine. 5 minutes later it happened again and now nothing works to brighten it.

Sounds like the auto brightness is flaking.

Try this:

If your screen is dirty, try cleaning it.
double click the Home button and scroll the app tray to the left and check the brightness setting (its the slider on the left)

If that isn't helpful:

Open the Settings app, go to Brightness & Wallpaper. If Auto-brightness is On, turn it off. If it is off, reset the brighness using the slider.
Rest the iPad: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
Turn auto Brightness back on (if you want it on)
