May 10, 2014 4:28 PM in response to frederic1943by HaraldS,Despite other reports I upgraded a Macbook 2009 5,2 with 2x4GB 800MHz (PC2-6400). The results work perfectly well, the system is reporting the DIMMs correctly and shows 8GB.
This upgrade was from 4GB. I also upgraded the disk to a 240GB SSD. The system is running Mavericks 10.9.2
It was not very usable in the previous setup, lots of spinning balls. Now it screams - very nice even with iPhoto!
Highly recommended!

Aug 8, 2014 8:35 AM in response to kaz-kby jwphoto80,Ok thanks, just as I thought, I thought there might be some work around as it is quite an annoyingly small amount of RAM. I have bought a new battery, a new SSD and now I am hindered at the last hurdle of making my MBP amazing.

Aug 24, 2014 1:30 PM in response to jwphoto80by dillonfromorleans,I have a MBP 17" mid 2009 5,2 (Mavericks 10.9.4).
I upgraded from 4 to 8 GB of RAM. Made a big difference in speed.
I have read on the net (but can no longer find where I read it, perhaps ifixit.com) that this model of MBP can now make use of 2 8GB RAM modules.
Has anyone tried this and if so, has it worked?

Aug 29, 2014 4:12 AM in response to mummybelfieldby Official_Geronimo,I'm wondering if I can upgrade my Macbook Pro 13'' (not Retina) Ram, I currently have 8gb installed and I'm just thinking if it's possible to upgrade to 16gb. The specs of my mac are:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro9,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.9 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 8 GB
Boot ROM Version: MBP91.00D3.B09
SMC Version (system): 2.2f44
It would be much appreciated to know as I am new to the OS and would love the extra ram. Thanks!

Oct 21, 2014 8:10 PM in response to frederic1943by gmeddy,Your post states that the MacBook 6,1 (Late 2009) can take 8 GB of ram, however Apples page here MacBook: How to remove or install memory states that it can only take 2GB per slot, 4GB total.
The Crucial website also only shows 2GB sticks of RAM available for the MacBook 6,1
It's a shame because my Macbook is always close to RAM being maxed out even without any heavy programs running. I have 4GB already.
EDIT** I just found a website that states this:
Standard RAM: 2 GB Maximum RAM: 8 GB* Details: 2 GB of RAM is installed as two 1 GB modules, no slots free.
*Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM, but third-parties have confirmed that it actually supports 8 GB of RAM.So that is very cool, and looks like I was wrong and your list is correct @frederic1943

Nov 22, 2014 9:50 AM in response to mummybelfieldby debbiem10,How much RAM can I upgrade my Macbook Pro to. Crucial website offers 16, but Mac site says up to 8. What happens if you upgrade higher than "recommended" amt. I am running at 2.5 to 3.5 with hardly any systems running, so not sure upgrading to 8 will be enough. Thanks
