To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

The model 1,1 (Early 2006) can use 2gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM The model 2,1 (Late 2006 & Mid 2007) can use 3gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM The model 3,1 (Late 2007) can use 6gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM The model 4,1 (Early 2008) can use 6gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM The model 5,1 (Late 2008, Aluminum Unibody) can use 8gb of 204 pin 1066mhz PC3-8500 RAM The model 5,2 (Early 2009, 2.0GHz Model Only) can use 6gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM The model 5,2 (Mid 2009, 2.13GHz Model Only) can use 6gb of 200 pin 800mhz PC2-6400 RAM The model 6,1 (Late 2009, White Unibody) can use 8gb of 204 pin 1066mhz PC3-8500 RAM The model 7,1 (Mid 2010, White Unibody) can use 8gb of 204 pin 1066mhz PC3-8500 RAM

These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM

OWC
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/ - They offer Mac tested RAM at very good prices.

Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model

Data Memory Systems http://www.datamemorysystems.com/apple-memory.asp - another good, cheap place to buying RAM if you live in the U.S.

Here are instructions on replacing RAM in a MacBook with a removable battery. http://homeoffice.consumerelectronicsnet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=44404

If you don’t have the tools to open up the MacBook OWC has a set for $5.

OWC tested to support Maximum Memory up to 8.0GB:
  • MacBook Pro 13.3" 2.26GHz (All)

Hi,

I have a 4,1 Macbook as well. It's currently suffering from extreme slowness and I am wondering if updating/upgrading my memory will help this problem.

I have 2GB of memory currently, and have read that with my model I can have 6 GB of max memory. This includes the 2 GB built into my computer (so I can upgrade by adding 2 seperate 2GB card, right?)

Please advise. I am a student, but not in a financial position to buy a new computer presently. I am hoping to spend a little money on this memory upgrade and be able to use my MacBook for a few more years. Appreciate any thoughts!

Thanks,

Helenorosaurus

RAM = Memory

There are only 2 RAM Slots...

See Memory here > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp5

From my post above...

It is Important to get the Correct and Matching RAM

See Here > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/

For best performance, fill both memory slots, installing an equal memory module in each slot.

The Linked site also has instructional Videos on How to Install RAM should you need it.

I have a Macbook Pro 5,2 2009 that I am running with 8GB memory. I'm interested to know if anyone has gotten it to run with 16GB, i.e. 2 x 8GB soDIMM. Please don't hit me with the "It's Important to get the Correct and Matching RAM" mantra. I'm interested in what is possible.

I've seen some Kingston 8GB 1066MHz PC3-8500 sticks out there for $97 each that might fit the bill. What does everyone think of KVR16S11K2/16 or the Amazon product at http://www.amazon.com/Memory-1066MHz-PC3-8500-Notebook-Macbook/dp/B00A6TYORA ? Anyone?

I've got a macbook 7,1. I've got 2 compatible 4GB modules but it won't start when I install both of them. I have tried all combination and reseated them several time but I can only get it to start with a one of the original 1GB and one of the new 4GB modules. Any suggestions? (I'm running 10.6.8. Do I need to upgrade to 10.7 to make it work?)

Thanks
