how to change names in "favorite servers" list of Connect-to-Server

I've got a bunch of often-used servers saved in the list that shows up when I do "apple-K" (Finder's "Connect to Server"). but they're entered as IP addresses; I'd like to rename them so that I can actually recognize which one is which without having to look up the IP address in a list. Is there any way to customize this list to edit how the various frequently-used servers appear there?

After going to Go -> Connect to Server...

Enter the name into the 'Server Address:' box then press the + sign. It should be added to your 'Favorite Servers' box. If you want to get rid of any of your 'Favorite Servers' just highlight the server and then click the remove button.

If you get a chance, fill in the information about your computer under your profile. The reason being that it will help us help you out. For example, the above instructions will work if you are running 10.3, but not if you are running another OS. HTH.

Yep - I've saved a bunch of servers in there. My problem is that they're entered by IP address (to make the right connection), but I'd like to have them labeled with words so that I know which one is which. For example, my favorite servers list has the entry "smb://172.16.0.8" and I'd like it to say something like "Our PC server" so that I know which one I want to connect to when looking at the list. Is it possible to alter or customize the way servers appear in this list?

Or better yet, is there a way to make an alias that automatically mounts (using keychain to log in) network volumes? I'd rather just make a pointer to a server and rename the alias, but it never works for me for SMB targets that have multiple mount points that have to be chosen; once I drag the server to the trash, clicking the alias doesn't cause it to re-login and put the server back on the desktop (it says "original could not be found").

that's weird - I went to my profile settings and it says "10.3.9" and "G5". Is there other details I should have there?

Thanks,

Mike
