Hi. I recently had ubuntu installed on my late 2008 15" Macbook Pro, but I decided to get Leopard back and upgrade (the laptop shipped with Leopard). I grabbed my recover DVD (which was quite scratched after almost 5 years in my closet), stuck it in the factory disc drive, erased the hard drive completely, and *tried* to start the installation. I got through the DVD verification just fine, but before it could even finish calculating the estimated time, it gave me a message saying "Installation error; Could not verify contents of BaseSystem package". So, I tried again; didn't work. I decided to go ahead and order a Snow Leopard DVD from eBay, but I need to know some things first:

1) Was it just my DVD that's causing the error, due to the seemingly infinite scratches, or a computer hardware error? and

2) Will this error occur when upgrading to Snow Leopard if I'm using the retail DVD? If so, how do I go about fixing it without buying a new computer?

I don't mind doing whatever it takes at this point!
