airport express hard wired into airport extreme

I have an airport extreme hard wired into the comcast modem and feeding a Switch wich hardwire the whole house.

I bought an airport express to extend the wifi in a different part of the house. When i connect a hard wire from the airport express to the switch the airport extreme goes into protection and disconnect the wifi. If I don't connect the cable the signal is week.

Looks like when i connect the airport express to the airport extreme via a a Switch all hard wire neither work.

The airport express is configure as extension of the existing network.

any suggestion is welcome.

Suggest that you follow the steps below:

Close AirPort Utility if is open.

Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express.

Perform a Hard Reset on the AirPort Express by holding in the reset button for 8-10 seconds and then release. Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.

Connnect the Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express

Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds. Look for the heading of New AirPort Base Station. Just under that, the AirPort Express will appear. Click directly on AirPort Express.

AirPort Setup will open automatically and then take a minute to analyze the network and announce that the Express will be configured to "Extend" the network.

Enter a device name for the AirPort Express that you want to use and click Next

Wait a minute or two while AirPort Setup configures the Expresss. When you see the Setup Complete message, click Done.

You are done.

I too have the same setup (I think) as what was described. I have a comcast Netgear Modem/Router performing DHCP/NAT. Coming off of one of the 4 LAN Ports of this modem/Router is connecting my Apple Extreme (Set in Bridge Mode). The AE is providing my WIFI network and doing very well. I have a Netgear 8port Gigabit switch that I have connected to one of LAN ports on the Apple Extreme to be able to provide Ethernet connections to PC and other devices that need access to the network. I want to extend the coverage of my WIFI network with an Apple Express. I have run a Cat6 ethernet cable to the location where I want to place my Express to extend coverage and connected into one of the LAN ports on the Apple Extreme.

My Question is how do I get this to work with the setup as it is now? Will it even work? Or, Should I setup the Apple Extreme to perform the DHCP/NAT and put the Comcast Netgear Modem/Router into Bridge mode?
