How can I get Excel 08 formulas to work in Lion?

Recently upgraded to Lion 10.7 and now my Office for Mac 08 programs are not working well - particularly Excel. My machine details are:

Office for Mac 2008 version is 12.2.8

MacBook is almost 4 yrs old - came with Leopard

Upgraded to Lion 10.7 because Firefox no long supported Leopard.

Downloaded and installed upgrade for Office 2008 but forumlas in Excel are still not working properly. All if get is this: #VALUE!

I haven't used Word or PowerPoint enough to know the problems there.

It seems Office 2011 has some of the same problems so afraid to try that.

  • Is there a solution that wouldn't cost more money?
  • Would downgrading to Snow Leopard solve this problem?
  • Would upgrading to Mountain Lion help?
  • Would downloading Office 08 service packs 1 & 2 help?

Thanks

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Thanks for the link but this is more a Lion issue. The problem didn't occur till I upgraded to Lion and it is only one of several compatibility issues I'm sorting out.

I did graze through the list on the link but found nothing immediately related and I don't have MS account.

So, please, does anyone have any wisdom for sorting this problem out?
