I used a wet Magic Eraser and then wiped it dry with a cloth. It worked like a champ!!
91% (or up) isopropyl alcohol (available at CVS stores if you're in the US) will remove permanent marker. Using a Qtip test a tiny area of the screen that didn't get hit by the marker first to see what it does. I don't think ordinary 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol will be very effective, but you could try it first, since it may be less possibly harmful.
It sounds crazy, but Binaca Breath Drops is often an effective solvent for removing marks made by "Sharpie" type permanent markers, probably because it contains a small amount of "specially denatured" ethanol.
The cure might be as bad or worse than the disease.
Melamine foam erasers work well; but on surfaces that are painted, polished or easily scratched, they might work a little too well. It's recommended to test the eraser on a small, preferably unnoticeable, portion of whatever you're looking to clean before you dive on in.
...This is because when melamine resin cures into foam, its microstructure becomes very hard -- almost as hard as glass -- causing it to perform on stains a lot like super-fine sandpaper.
Just went thru this problem. Read all kinds of opinions. Finally said f*** it. I saw some nail polish remover, drenched a paper towel and started wiping. IT WORKED!!! But as soon as it dries out you must drench it some more otherwise it'll start smearing. Doesn't work on the silver part of the imac but if you get a dry eraser marker and write over the marks and wipe it off it'll work.
Check out 'more like this' >>>>>>>>> opposite. There are one or two solutions there from people with similar problems. Don't forget the links within each thread.
I have used nail varnish on a PC screen before now with no problems, maybe you could try a very small area to test.
