Iphone 3GS Bluetooth is not discovering anything

I have had an Iphone 3G and now the 3GS version and the current one has never connected with the bluetooth application to any device at any time. I have tried to connect with Mac and MS computers, Hnads free devices and vehicle radio's and bluetooth enabled devices. I always follow the direction of each device and then try to connect my Iphone in the recommended way. I need some serious help with this not just some suggestive excuses for what I have done wrong as I have followed every guide and book imaginable and nothing works. The Iphone Bluetooth does not discover any devices. Please help or suggest a solution and changing to a non Mac device is not an option

Understand the computer bit however the 3GS will not find a hand free device at all. I have a Audiosonic Bluetooth car kit and have tried to pair however the Iphone does not discover it. My Daughter has an Iphone 4 and it finds the device straight away. Do I have to ungrade to an Iphone 4. We need to read all of the question before replying as I have already stated I have tried Hands Free and still nothing. Thanks anyway
