My macbook pro has suddenly stopped recognizing DVD's that it has previously played. I need to fix this, as I use the pro in class and need to be able to show these DVD's to my students. When I insert the DVD, I get a message saying "the disk you inserted is not readable by the computer". Huh? It was readable last month, why not now? (this happens with any DVD so the problem is not the disk, but the computer)

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

Normally with CMD+OPT+P+R held down, you'll continue to get restarts and the bong. If not, then all I can surmise is that you inadvertently let one key up. Try again or visit an Apple repair station.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like the simplest thing to do.
