Is the icloud email address supposed to spontaneously appear in the "send new messages from" drop down? Because it hasn't.

With Mail quit, try turning off Mail in the iCloud system preferences, then turn it back on.
Thanks for the tip, but no it didn't work. I could sign out of icoud completely, but I am asked to take a few steps about saving contacts and losing calendar details. Might try that anyways.
Yeah I had to log out of icloud and I incidentally logged in with the new @icloud as my apple id. Thanks again
