updated a 3g with os 6.0., now podcasts won't play, can I go back a version?

I don't thing the 3g even needed this update, but I did it anyway, now when I try to play a pod cast, the screen showing "now playing" appears for a second, then it flips back to the list of podcasts in that group. I also had the "system restore" problem that several other people mentioned, but I just went ahead, restored and then it prompted me to reinstall the back up from the cloud. I just wonder if going back to version 5.whatever would solve the problem, but how do you do that?
