iWork '05 or '06?

I am running now with iLife '05. I would like to add the iWork app. Do I buy iWork '06 or do I need iWork '05.

Hi Peggy,

I too, am considering the purchase of iWork, and am running iLife '05 on my computers. You state that iLife '05 is compatible with iWork '06, but on Apple's website the system requirements say that iLife '06 is recommended. This worries me a bit. Are you certain that iWork '06 will integrate properly with iLife '05? Do you know what problems Apple anticipates by making that recommendation in their list of minimum system requirements?

Any further enlightenment would help me to decide on a product. Thanks!

Recommended doesn't mean required. I installed iWork '06 as soon as I got it, but I didn't install iLife '06 for another month or so (big iPhoto > iMovie > iDVD project in the works). I had no problems using Pages 2/iWork '06 with iLife '05. I even use Pages 2 with iLife '04 on my church's iMac. Again, no problem.

Peggy,

Thanks so much for your prompt and helpful reply. It's good to hear from someone who has actually used iLife '05 and iWork '06 together.

On another note, and perhaps I should post this in the iLife forum - I have read several posts from folks who did not like iMovie '06 and ended up re-installing iMovie '05. Since you use iLife '06, can I trouble you to give me your opinion on iMovie '06? Again, I will happily re-post this in the iLife forum if this question is inappropriate here.

Ann

I've only done a couple of small projects in iMovie '06, but other than the themes, I really don't see much difference from '05. It has opened my older iMovie projects without problems. Except now the projects are saved as a package, like a Pages document is a package, so I have duplicates. I need to figure out if the ones saved as '06 can function without the older folders so I can get rid of the folders. Digital video just takes up so much space, I need to do what I can to reclaim it.

Do a search in the iMovie HD 6 forum for your question. It is very likely it's been asked & answered many times.
