Hi guys. I've been trying to setup my VPN on mountain lion ever since I bought it but with no joy at all! I've followed numerous guides but always get the error
"The L2TP server did not respond"
Having looked at the logs I get the message
"PPTP plugin: unable to bind socket to port 1723 - err = Address already in use
Unable to initialise VPN plugin"
Does anyone have any ideas please

Your L2tp and pptp address range should should be out of the range of each other and outside of the scope of any dhcp or existing fixed IP addresses
The correct ports need to be forwarded to your server if you're behind a NAT device
The correct ports need to be open on any firewall your running
If your connecting via domain name, the domain name has to resolve to your IP address from the Internet
If your connecting via IP address you'll need a fix external IP address

My routers local address is 10.0.1.1
My server is reserved as 10.0.1.2
My L2TP and PPTP address range is 10.0.1.201-210
My router is an airport extreme and has been configured to forward port 1723 by the server itself.
I am connecting via a static external IP address
Anything else i can try?
Can anyone else shed any light on this i still cannot get this to work!
What do you get from
sudo lsof -i4 | grep pptp
vpnd 20 root 4u IPv4 0xcbaeed73fa9a529d 0t0 TCP *:pptp (LISTEN)
The PPTP server is running, according to that. What happens when you try to connect to it?
