Does anyone know the capabilities of tracking an iphone or ipod, if its lost or stolen and whether the device needs to be on or off.

Are there limitations on finding my device if someone finds it, and sync's it to their peripheral and assumes the device.

The device can't be tracked if powered off.

With the Passcode Lock feature enabled which should be used, no data can be transferred from or to the iPhone with another computer, and the Find My iPhone setting can't be turned off along with not being able to turn Location Services off with both required to make use of Find My iPhone.

Notthing can prevent someone from restoring the iPhone with iTunes on another computer as a new iPhone, which will prevent Find My iPhone from working.
