Why haven't my texts and notes transferred across when restoring backup from 3GS to 5?

I got my iPhone 5 this week and have restored from backup from iTunes - it's only added my apps, contacts and mail accounts back on. I no longer have any of my text messages or notes. It's not the end of the world as they're still on my old phone (3GS) but would really like them all on new phone if possible.

Anyone else experienced this problem?
