My ipod won't restore. What do I do?

So my Ipod wasn't letting me update any apps or buy new ones due to me needing iOS5 so I plugged my ipod into the computer and updated which took at least 3 hours. So then it said I had to restore my ipod, so I went along and pressed Restore. On three occasions it said "The ipod 'ipod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured (9)" I've tried researching this on google to see what to do but nothing has came up. Now there is like a loading screen on the screen while it is plugged in and hasn't moved since 16:15. Could someone tell me what I should do as I really don't want it to be broken and having to go out to purchase a new one because the warranty has ran out

Error 9

This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.
