Mac mini 2012 (latest) slow wi-fi?!

Hi all,

Got my new Mac-mini 2012, been having major slow internet connectivity via wi-fi...

I've got my 2009 MBPro on wi-fi and do not have any internet connectivity slowdown issues like the mini.

Anny ideas please?

Thanks

I have the same issue. I can sit right in front of my new Mac Mini with my 3rd Gen iPod Touch and the iPod touch works great. I have less bars of reception with the iPod Touch, but the speed is really normal for me where it is completely unusable with the Mac Mini. I do have an internet connection present and can send and receive emails and iMessages.

I have mostly same issue with you ... means, not only to the internet connection but LAN and AirPlay.

McBook Pro w/ Snow Leopard is ok at the same place in the room but Mac mini 2012 is interupted the connectivity to AirPlay music quite often. I think 5GHz did not work in my environment since my AirPort Express with speaker is old generation but can connect by 11n. AirPort Extreme and Express is cofugured to the same network by WSD.

It seems far from 450 Mbps.

Should I replace the AirPort Extreme and Express to the new generation with 5GHz?

I also have problems with the wifi connection of my 2012 i5 Mac mini.

Firstly the connection was always dropping. After updating the EFI firmware to 1.7 I never experienced wifi disconnections. However, if I put the mini to sleep, after wake up the connection turns terribly slow. To solve this I must restart the mini.

My router is a Thomson TG585 V7 and with my windows laptop never had a problem like this.

I am trying to become a Apple user after many years of pc's, however, I am frustrated with this same issue. I have replaced my pc with a Mac Mini 2012 and it is slow to the point that I can't even download updates to see if this could fix the problem. As a matter of fact I am having to research this on my 7 year old pc! any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I'm already beginning to think i made a mistake switching to Mac.

I found the slow Wi-Fi issues may come from its Wi-Fi Signal/Noise ratio of Mac mini 2012.

When I check the Wi-Fi status by iStumbler, only the new Mac mini's noise lebel were relatively high and its S/N ratios are less than 1.0 always (e.g. 68/38, 59/41 etc) in cotrast to the others (MacBook Pro, MacBook Air's lebel: 66/13, 56/14 etc). The new Mac mini's sensitivity may higher but the specificity seems lower than the others.

Pls check the environment of your Wi-Fi networks' S/N ratio by iStumbler on different Mac.

I guess this issue comes from the Mac mini's new Wi-Fi tip (intel's new tip?) with high sensitive antena installation.

I'm not sure this sensitivity and specificity issue can be controlled by software.

I hope Apple's engineers can sort out this issue.

Does anyone know this solution?

I also use a Thomson/technicolor. I got slow wifi ever since I went mountain lion

I also have another place with a bulking same problem. Used channel 11.

Then I using is tumbler looked at aall other channels by close by users. I was the only one using channel 11 default by router.

I changed channel on both routers to 9 no one else used it. Fixed it no more delays.... Except occasionally during busy times.

Hello everyone,

thank you RRFS:

I have a Lian Li case for a USB3 external harde drive and when i plug it in my MacMini Late 2012, my wifi signal is quite inexistant, when i plug it off, the signal is fine.

I don't have this issue with my Western Digital USB3 external hard drive (better connectors)

Read this article for more details:

Hi, i have exactly this same problem with MAC mini (late 2012).. wi-fi connection level seems to be high (connection level is 80-100%) but internet is really, really, really slow 😟 I have checked that there's no another applications using much bandwidth.. I also have macbook pro and it works well (in same place as my mini) and wi-fi connection is fine..

Yes, i have external USB hard drive and other USB stuff, but i used to have those same connected to my macbook pro and there was no issues..

This is really frustrating.. any comments from apple side? Feels kind of odd to by new mac mini to replace old macbook pro and this is what i get..

One thing should be aware of, is that there are several different kinds of Wifi routers on the market. There's Wireless G, which is always at 2.4Ghz, and there is wireless N, which can be at either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.

Wireless G will be the slowest, Wireless N at 2.4Ghz will be about twice as fast, and Wireless N at 5Ghz will be about four times as fast. Now, there's also a matter of interference. There are fewer consumer devices using the 5Ghz range and so that will usually provide the clearest signal.

The router you're using decides what kind of Wifi is being offered... the most recent Mac computers and Ipads are compatible with all of the types I've listed.
