Q: Mac Mini Display not showing full screen

New mac mini is connected to older monitor w/ VGA cable. The screen is not fitting on the display. It seems like the "underscan" feature might help, but I do not have an option for it. Infact, i can only select 1 resolution 800x600 . .  Help? is there a place i go w/ more display options?

the other thing is - when i rotate the view, i can see things it's leaving off the screen. I know it's there...!

I've adjusted the TV but when i move it right / left or up / down, it's just black that moves into the field of view...

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I will say - one weird thing as well - the home desk top seems ok - I can see the apple on the top right and the time, search feature and mail icon to the left... my dock comes up on the bottom.

It is generally only when i'm in programs (e.g. garage band) that i can not see things at the bottom or right of the screen, they disappear (and I am unable to scroll to them...)
