Can I change the SATA I connectors in my 2006 Macbook to SATA II connectors?

Can I change the SATA I connectors in my 2006 Macbook to SATA II connectors? Although my Macbook is old, it's still kicking, but I'm finally filling up my hard drive. I want to install a SSD, but my connectors are SATA i 1.5 GB, and it appears that while a SSD would work, I would only get the 1.5 speed. Crucial has indicated that they recommend that in such a situation the SATA connectors be changed to at least SATA II. Since I unfortunately can't afford a new MBP right now, I'd really like to be able to gain the benefit of the SSD.

They are the same connectors. But the drive is still only going to connect via SATA I because that's what the controller supports, and you cannot change the controller.

Putting in an SSD won't solve your problem. You just need a bigger hard drive.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive

1. See Lion's Storage Display.

2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.

3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.

4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.

5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.

6. See The Storage Display.

You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.

You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
