I have been having repeated instances where iPhoto crashes, usually after sitting for a couple minutes unused. Beachball, then crash. Upon restart, I get notice that database repair is needed. A few minutes later that finishes and all the events in my library are randomized and sometimes a lot are missing. I had Time Machine backup fail as well (Murphy's law); and database copy I had made manually from 5 weeks ago once brought up to date by re-importing pictures, it again bombs after a couple hours work.
Large database, over 90K photos, 480 GB.
I recently got a new camera taking full frame 22MP pictures which I did set to record in Adobe RGB - I wonder if the new pictures are involved in the corruption.
I am moving over a fresh copy of the 5-weeks ago database and I plan to repair and/or rebuild the database.
I have a registered copy of iPhoto Library Manager and may make a fresh database from that - not sure if that preserves all events in same order, though.
I am strongly considering making the move to Aperture if it might help.
I am posting this looking for any sage advice from anyone out there either on the source of the corruption or any advice on how to proceed.
Thanks for any help!
I wanted to post an update in case anyone comes across this in the future and has similar issues. I traced the issue to a corrupt jpg - luckily this one had visible corruption. I became convinced I had found the issue with certainty when I tried to make a complete copy of a drive and that one file - out of hundreds of thousands on the drive - was not able to be copied by the finder / it bombed the copy. I was finally successful at throwing it away (which was a process / this file was very close to being a spontaneously occurring virus and refused to die) and I have not had problems since.
