mail keeps spinning

Every since I upgraded to OS 10.7.5 my Mail program does not work. The cursor keeps spinning and then it begings to shut down. Once it lockes up it tell me to quit so that it can rebuild files. Nothing seems to happen after that.

Any ideas?
