what does it mean when a red background with a camera and an exclamation point pops up on a majority of your clips?

Missing Camera

A camera that contains files used in Final Cut Pro is not connected to your system.

To avoid getting this alert, create a copy of the media when you import it. See Organize files while importing for more information.

What does all this mean, probably that you were editing using the files on the camera rather than ingesting/copying/importing them into the the FCPX event.
