Unable to start MacBook

MacBook wouldn't start. Used start up disk. Used utilities to repair disk. Unable to repair disk. Requested disk be backed up through image and then formatted and system restore. Would not make image. Tried installing system . Would not allow. Any suggestions on how to fix?

You are going to have to erase the hard drive (use Disk Utility to do this while booted to either an install disk, or if you are running Lion or Mountain Lion, booted to the recovery partition) and then reinstall the system, and restore your data from a backup.
