My contacts disappear after going to "Groups" on iPhone 5
Every time I press the "Groups" button under Contacts, all of my contacts disappear. Any ideas?

Ok, are there different named groups in there? Do each of the groups have a check mark beside them, that you want to see?
Yes. I have two groups listed there, my old @me account and iCloud. Both are checked but all but 5 of my 173 contacts are showing.
So I turned off Contacts in my iCloud settings and magically all of my contacts reappear! What's up with that?
Not really sure, but i would sync to itunes and let it back up. Then do a backup in icloud and see if it backs up all of your contacts this time. May have been an issue with previous back up of your contacts in icloud.
I did backup to iCloud but it didn't seem to work.

I have the exact same issue. It, too, resolved when I turned Contacts off in my iphone 5 ICloud settings. When asked, I chose to Keep the Contacts on my phone and then selected the Merge option when I turned Contacts back on. I also had checked my Groups before I noticed that 12 Contacts were not syncing from the cloud to my phone. I think it's a glitch with the Cloud or with the iOS 6 Contacts app, not with us, personally. I wonder if Apple is aware of this.
