I have a Lexar 32gb USB flash drive that works perfectly fine. I bought a PNY 64gb flash drive that my mac doesnt pop up on the screen right away when I plug it into the USB port. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you reformatted the drive to Mac OS Extended (journaled)? Most drives are formatted for Windoze
On the package it say its compatible for Mac OS 8.6 and later

Ya i think it might be. Mother in law pciked it up somewhere in the U.S. How do I reformat it ?
Seeing as how Mac OS 8.6 was released in 1999, that would say that the flash drive is over 12 years old. It is probably worn out by now since flash drive do have a limited life expectancy.

Try reformatting using Disk Utility.
But as Allan says, it may be too old to work. They are very cheap to buy!
even if they are still in the package Allan? it cant be that old cause it says it works with windows 7. Maybe cause its a USB 2.0 drive?? the lexar i have is 3.0 and like i said it works perfectly fine. Thats what has me confused

Plug in usb drive, open disk utility, and reformat as HFS+ (aka MacOS Extended)
is there a tutorial on how to do that on here?
my USB doesnt even show up in the side barwhen I go into disc utility. Believe me I made sure it was plugged in.
