The problem I am having is that if I select a clip from the timeline, the first clip shows in the Viewer. If I select a second clip nothing happens. Selecting clips from the Event Browser works fine, but not the Timeline. I have re-set FCPX to Original Layout, but no help. Thanks.

The Playhead or skimmer determine what appears in the viewer. Selecting a clip brings it up in the inspector.
Does this then mean that somehow the connection between the cursor and the Playhead has changed because before editing a series of stills I could click between clips to see which one I liked.
Yes, the behavior has changed in 10.0.6. The playhead doesn't move when you select a clip.
Oh dear. So is there any work arounds?
If the skimmer is active, the viewer will show what's under the skimmer. Click in the timeline ruler to move the playhead. Hold the Option key when you select a click.
