I just went to update my iphone to the ios 6 software, but it has locked my phone and sent it back to factory settings without giving the pop up for if i want to do so or not. I have previously unlocked my iphone over 6 months ago, yet now i update the software i am stuck without a phone, my whole lifeline is on that phone, with my family being able to contact me as well as work. So until this gets fixed i am in a lurch. But apple never gave pre-warnings and using the old software my iphone was slowly not working, little things were taking ages to upload when they never had before. What can i do?

Restore the phone with iTunes on the last computer you synced it to. This will restore the backup from that computer. If you have been syncing with iCloud first restore on the computer, then go to Settings/General/Reset - Erase All Content and Settings. You will then be prompted to restore the iCloud backup.
