How to set up airport express access point with Uverse

Check to make sure that the Airport Express is configured to.....

Connect using the WAN "O" port

Create a wireless network....(not extend)

Finally, check again to make sure that the Express is configured in Bridge Mode

Power off the entire network and then restart again, Uverse router first.

If you want the Express to act like part of the Uverse wireless, it must use the exact same wireless network name, exact same wireless security setting and same wireless password as the Uverse router.

Bob, I'm going to be adding a new Apple Airport Extreme to a UVerse 2Wire Gateway 3800 HGV-B. I am planning on using your suggestion to put the AEBS in Bridge Mode. I've seen your posts where you state that this is the less complicated option.

This is in a two-story home with the Uverse and the AEBS next to each other on the second story. To provide good coverage downstairs, my plan was to locate a new Airport Express down there.

My question is, if you put the AEBS in Bridge Mode, can you still extend the network with the Airport Express?

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I don't want to use the Uverse wireless network. I want to use the Apple Airport Extreme wireless dual-band network and I want to extend it using the Express. I just wanted to make sure I could still do this with the AEBS in Bridge Mode.

That's correct. It would be a good idea to turn off the Uverse wireless if you can, since having two wireless routers in close proximity to each other can create possible interference effects that can cause problems with the signals from both routers.

Okay, I disabled wireless functionality on the UVerse 2Wire Gateway, attached the Airport Extreme Base Station to it in Bridge Mode, set up the new wireless network then installed the Airport Express downstairs, extending the range. It went without a hitch and now there is full wireless n dual-band coverage throughout the house.

Bob, I have read several of your posts in the Community -- your advice is always succinct and seemingly on target.

I have a somewhat similar question/issue. Using Uverse -- although I have five cat-5 cabled outlets throughout my house. My Uverse router/modem is in the basement and trying to extend service to my third floor. Can i put an Express in bridge mode, then enthernet cable it to an outlet and effectively extend the signal if, as you state, the Express settings mirror the Uverse 2wire wireless settings?

Yes

The Express must be configured to "create a wireless network" using the exact same wireless network name as the verse wireless network, exact same wireless security settting and exact same password.

Then check to make sure that the Express is configured to operate in Bridge Mode as the final step before you click to Update and save the settings for the Express.

Once the Express restarts, you will have a green light, but you still need to power off both the Uverse gateway and the Express now. Wait a minute, then start the Uverser gateway and let it run a few minutes. Then, start the AirPort Express.
