Why does strikethrough override all other font commands?

I keep my school assignments and due dates organized in a rather obsessive-compulsive style Pages document, with certain colors representing specific classes. When I highlight a bit of text and click 'strikethrough', the color of the text is reset to black and any italics is removed. Is there a way around this, or is Pages simply meant to do so?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it's specific to Lion & Mountain Lion but I get the same result. But then I realized that using the strikethrough character style also contains the character color of black.

You have a couple of options to get the results you're asking for. You can set a character style for strikethrough in each color or just use the strikethrough option in the fonts panel.
