MESSAGES: contacts have had Names removed, and now only phone numbers appear

I am troubleshooting Apple Messages on a 13 in Mac Book Pro Retina Display.

We are using Messages, and all our contacts have had their names removed, and only their phone numbers are displayed. this makes it impossible to know who each contact is.

we have our telephone number, icloud, and AIM setup for Messages. We also use an iphone 4S, and have imessages running on that as well.

we are looking for possible causes of this issue.

thanks

Hi,

The Messages App can do iMessages which is contacting "Contacts" (Youur Former Address Book).

This should have card fro all your Contacts and these should have their First Names, Last Names listed as well as their iMessages details.

Next with the Messages window "Front" check the View Menu > Messages which should have the Show Names and Pics option showing.
