what is the best laptop for running CS7 , macAir or MacPro
I need to upgrade and want a laptop for travel but also to use to edit photos with CS7 using an external monitor. What is better for photo editing the MacAir or MacPro both 13"

It is a bit of a subjective question, given the parameters laid out as you have.
Certainly a larger screen size will afford a better layout for seeing more of the media you are working on, but at the expense of portability.
From the point of viw about power suitability, the current Air is perfectly adept at nearly all facets of CS5, save for longer processing tuimes for complex filters, renderings and processing. Really, in order to gauge the relative effectivness of consideration of the Air, we'd need to know much more about your intended purpose and whether specific actions may require more CPU or memory. For my own prodfessional workt the 13" i7 Air works just fine for my Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge/Acrobat & Illustrator work. If I need a larger monitor for deskwork, I can dock my Air. I vastly value my Air over my previous work with a Pro model. However, I think my next purchase will probably be a Pro-Retina (13").
Decide how important portability is.
I know the retina display would be better; the question I had was the speed of rendering and processing with photoshop; if one is better than the other and if it is better to get more memory or larger flash drives
i Think one of the most important thing is the RAM. My Macbook air (i5,2012) has 8GB and works well with Photoshop. My iMac 21,5 (mid2010,i3) has now 12GB of RAM, and after upgrading from 4GB to 12GB i can feel a much better Performance especially 4 Photoshop CS5. So dont Save money @ RAM, especially for Rendering big Files 😉 ... RAM & SSD --> Perfect
thanks Shane, I had debated about getting an iMac or one of the mini cubes - but when I added up all the add ons for the mini cube it came to about the same as Mac Air; and the iMac is just coming out for an up grade so I will have to look into that -
i Love my MBA, but working on the 21,5 iMac is much better and makes more Fun... with the iMac you get the most MAC 4 your Money 😉 and you will never miss it... The MBA is perfect for Study... if you dont need a Notebook, just a Mac for for Professional Photo-Editing ,take the iMac or mini Cube (think you mean Mac mini) Bigger is better (SCREEN) especially for Photo Editing 😉
if you wanna save Money, go to Apple Store and buy a refurbished one 🙂 i buy my iPod Classic refurbished... it where like buying a new one 🙂
yeah I thought of that; I have a great large LCD monitor but I thought I could kill two birds with one stone; I have a PC laptop that the screen is going; it has verical lines and sometimes flickers; and it is so heavy; and I take it when I travel; so the MacAir looked perfect for travel but not good for editing.
