What does RAM speed do? (4200U-444 vs. 3200U-288)

I just ordered some RAM but on my About This Mac, it shows that it is a different speed than what I ordered. The company claims that the new Dual 2.0GHz have some read issues, but I wanted to see if anyone knows anything about this stuff (because I don't).

I ordered the PC2-4400, but it reads 3200U-288 instead of the 4200U-444 like my original RAM...Is there a difference or is it really a mis-read?

I always look at what Crucial recommends PowerMac G5 2.0 DC

Return it. I'm surprised it works. It also means that your Mac is going to run slower - I never saw PC2-3200 listed for the G5 DCs. If anything, you want faster RAM that is backward compatible.

Standard DDR2 240-pin DIMMs are available in DDR2 PC2-3200 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM, and DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM.

DDR2-533 for Dual Core

DDR2-PC4200 run @ 533mhz PC-3200 runs @ 400mhz. If you already have DDR2-4200 on your system then may I suggest buy the smae memory module/speed/type (DDR2-PC4200/240 pin/533mhz.:)

Yeah, I ordered the 4200 RAM from the place (macramdirect.com), but they must have shipped the wrong one - the guy I talked to claimed the the new Dual 2.0 GHz have had some problems reading the correct type of RAM. But I don't know if that's true or not...

I have a G5 dual core also, and i'm using DDR2-PC4200 single channel by Kingston Technology. Just returned or exchange it. He might be thinking about the G4 double door mirror unit. We also have this G4 DDM, If you upgrade the memory up to 2gig (not all unit) it goes crazy.
