How can I test whether these ports are open on my firewall for Profile Manager to function? Thanks.

Hi, I'm trying to get Profile Manager to manage iPads when off the LAN and suspect that the necessary ports mentioned in HT5302 are not open on our firewall as follows:

To use Profile Manager, you should ensure that the following ports are open on your network.

PortTCP/UDPDescription
2195, 2196TCPUsed by Profile Manager to send push notifications
5223TCPUsed to maintain a persistent connection to APNs and receive push notifications
80/443TCPProvides access to the web interface for Profile Manager admin
1640TCPEnrollment access to the Certificate

What's the easiest way of finding out if these ports are open or not?

Thanks,

Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Hi

A number of ways you could do this:

One way is to use telnet. From outside of the LAN (from your home as an example) launch terminal and telnet to the relevant port. If we use server.example.com as the hostname of your server or 100.100.100.100 as the external IP address of your server the command would look like this:

telnet server.example.com 2195

or:

telnet 100.100.100.100 2195

It will either say connected or it will refuse the connection. Change the port number to test the other ports.

HTH?
