On the Mac, in Calendar, you can quite easily subscribe to calendars located on the Internet, such as this one for the French National Holidays:
webcal://files.apple.com/calendars/French32Holidays.ics
My question is, can you also do this on an iPad; an iPad that exists entirely on its own and isn't being synced with any Mac or PC? If so, how?

Thanks. So, once you've gone to "Add subscribed Calendar" you can just type/paste in an address like webcal://files.apple.com/calendars/French32Holidays.ics and the iPad will understand it?
Yes, that will work.
You can also simply tap on the link to a calendar subscription in Safari or a message to subscribe to them. Removing them is still done in the Settings menu.
