should work without 10.6.8. You did clean install?

just formatted, not partitioned? if so - chances are that it is old pre-boot components. Boot from recovery, repair whole drive (not partition), then repair partition - should update boot components. Also permission repair will not hurt.

there are at least 2 icons for each drive in Disk Utility. If you select top-left - you'll repair drive, if bottom-right - DU will work on partition:

You can't Format a drive without first Partitioning it. If you go ahead and Re-Partition all your Data will be wiped out. You Do Not Need to Re-Partition the drive.

As to the No TRIM I suspect even though the drive is Listed as an Apple SSD it does not contain the correct pointers and or Info that make the OS auto enable TRIM support. Did you buy this drive from an Apple store? If not then you will need to enable TRIM yourself.

Mentioned APPLE SSD TS256B is a drive from 2010 year Macs and it is installed now in 2011 mbp - so it was not new, and as not new it was partitioned at Apple before using it for original BTO Mac.

At a time it was like 10.6.3-10.6.7 OS X, exactly pre-trim system which (and under) it was partitioned.

And I'm NOT suggesting him to re-partition drive. I suggest just run drive repair for Disk Utility 'update boot components as needed'.

Also trim is enabled exactly based on drive internal name, it should begin with "Apple SSD", that alone enough.

Please SHOW me where in any version of OS X Disk Utility there is a FORMAT system. Only in the partitioning section is there any reference to formatting and you can't access that without first selecting the Partition Layout options.

So if the OP Formatted the drive he also partitioned it.

A partition is a partition. If I partition and format a drive Mac Extended (Journaled) using SL 10.6.x disk utility it will still be find to install Lion or MT Lion without first Re-Partitioning and formatting using the disk utility from one of those newer version of OS X.

Really if it was enough for it to be Labeled Apple SSD TRIM would be enabled.

Also there is NO mention of the Age of the drive or where the OP got it. So just how do you know it is from 2010.

As I said before a DRIVE CAN NOT BE FORMATTED without first haviing a valid PARTITION ON IT.

I agree that drive have to be partitioned - but this exact drive most probably was partitioned at Apple when preparing for BTO Mac. And light Google on APPLE SSD TS256B will show what this drive is and when it was.

I even think that what I recommended will not help - but can not see any other reason for disabled trim on Apple drive.

Did you ever try Trim Enabler on this system?

Also, trying to enable TRIM manually did NOT work (I already tried) as the drive is recognized as an Apple Drive and the TRIM enablers specify NON APPLE drives only.

well, I don't know how trim enabler disables trim. two more questions:

1) did trim enabler run at all and if so what exactly it tells when you tried to enable trim?

2) did you disabled trim (revert or how it is called there) in trim enabler after you tried to enable it?

It's a Toshiba drive with Apple branding on it.

all of them are, so its normal
