cannot get mail "imap.gmail.com" is not responding verify info

Try deleting the Gmail account in Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars and re-installing it.

I have the same problem on an Iphone6 using is.4 It worked fine until Thursday 2nd July but I can no longer access. I get the message. I've tried turning off Wifi, I've tried just Wifi, I've tried restarting the device. I've obviously made sure the account info is correct. Nothing works. Meanwhile my backup Yahoo account works fine but I need the google one to work on my phone. It works fine on my iMac. So frustrating and such a common problem it seems. What is Google doing about this? Or is it an Apple problem?

How did you do this reinstall? Did you delete your old account completely and lose everything? or somehow delete if and then reinstall the same thing?

Same thing here. I have been having to delete my mail account and re-add it almost every day for the past few months.
