Can't sign into iMessage or Facetime using OS X 10.8
I've recently upgraded to OS 10.8 and I no longer can sign into Facetime nor can I use the new iMessage on my iMac. Any thoughts?

HI,
Open Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities)
Find imagent (Lower case)
Highlight and use the Quit button (you may need to confirm Force Quit).
Restart Messages (Which will relaunch IMAgent).
IMAgent is used by both FaceTime and Messages and is involved with the Login processes of both apps.
This is not always successful (it seems there may be several causes to what looks like the same symptoms).
If that does not work use the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and type (Copy and paste) ~/Library/Preferences into the dialogue box.
Find com.apple.imservices.iMessages.plist and Drag it to the Trash
Relaunch Messages.
If that does not work delete (Drag to Trash) com.apple.imessages.bag.plist
Restart Messages (Again)

Hey Ralph,
I tried, still not working. I spent about 2 hours on the phone with apple today and they couldn't fix it. So they are having enenieers look at it. Hopefully this will help some others.
HI,
Any chance this Mac has been refurbished or repaired ?
The only definite cause we have found with this symptom so far is a Missing Serial Number to the Motherboard.
In the System Information (Apple Menu > Hold ALT Key and select top item)
In Hard ware the Serial number of the device/motherboard is listed.
If Repaired it is supposed to be re-flashed back to the board.
Certain apps use this as a security check when "registering" for use.

Yup, I bought a referb.
HI,
Does the System Information app tell you that this is or is not a Serial Number ?
My understanding is that a Certified Apple Repair place have the tools to replace the serial number.

Hello.
I have the same problem.
I tried everything you say to do and i still have de same problem. When i try to connect with my apple id the message is the same: Serve find an error. Try later....nothing worked so far.
Thank you
I have a call with apple today. They ran reports on my computer and are having to talk to engineers to figure it out. If I learn anything I will let you know. Also when did you get Mountian lion. It comes with a small period of apple care. You should call and talk with them.
