After updating to the new version the audio slider in menu "window, record audio" is not there.
Is this a bug?

My record window has two sliders. One for input gain and one for output gain. Is that what you are referring to regarding audio slider?
this is what i mean: i miss the import decice gain slider:
somtimes by starting this window the slider jumps very quickly from the right to the left and remains there... A certain amount of level is still there so i can use it by loud speaking near to the mic...
That slider mimics the input gain slider in the sound pane in systems preferences. When the slider jumps to 0 can you move it back to 100? Check your systems preferences audio pane and see if you can control it there. You may have an OS issue not an FCP one.
No Jim, that is not the solution, it's no OS problem; I checked and tested all of the options but no differance. The slider simply cannot be moved to the right side... before the update o.k.
Are you able to control the microphone input level from the Sound preference panel in systems preferences? Does the slider work okay there? Does the microphone work in other applications? If these are all yes then I would trash the FCPX preferences as this sometimes clears up wierd problems. You can download for free the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion to do this or go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCut.plist. This is the library in your user directory. Hold down the option key and under the Go menu you should see Library appear. Hope this helps.
Hi Jim, i did what you suggested but no result... My son has the same system with the same problem (but does not use fcpX) and tried it himself, but no differance.
it appears after installing mountain lion.

Sounds like it might be a Mountain Lion problem since you can not see the slider in system prefs audio panel. I would post this issue in the Mountain Lion discussion forum. More likely to get help there.

I have the same problem in Mountain Lion. Whether I use the Firewire-connected Saffire DSP 24 or the mic in my USB webcam, the gain control in 'Audio Record' is greyed out and cannot be moved (the Monitor gain control works fine). The result is that my Voiceover recordings are at too low a level. They cannot be brought up sufficiently using the Saffire gain (you can of course play with the timeline gain, but that's something different). This is beginning to look like a ML bug.
i still have the problem at the moment. I bouhgt a new iMac and imported the fcpX again but no diff.
Always a to-low record-level that I have to correct.

It sounds as if you have selected a digital input source rather than analogue and thus you don't have the slider, the level is expected to be adjusted using the digital input device eg. an USB microphone or Firewire device.

Goto System Preferences "Audio"
In the Input Pane - Make sure you have Internal Microphone selected.
Once you have that the input slider will be accesible (In sys prefs only)
The Input slider will NOT become active in FCPx...
But at least you can control the input gain via system preferences
