    Import them using iPhoto.

Connecting an iOS device will automatically open iPhoto if you configure iPhoto Preferences like so:

It will simply look like a camera to iPhoto. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac and iPhoto does the rest.

There's another method if you're running OS X 10.7.5 or later and have an iCloud account.

That'st to setup iCloud and enable Photo Stream on your iPhone/iPad

and enable iCloud/Photo Sync on your Mac vis the System/iCloud preference pane.

Then open iPhoto, go to the iPhoto/Photo Share preference pane and enable Photo Stream and Automatic Import.

Then add your photos to Photo Stream on your iPhone/iPad (if they don't get added automatically) and they should be synced to your Mac and imported automatically into a new Event.

Note:  there's a 1000 photo limit to Photo Stream so if you have more than that use John's method. Then additional photos taken with your iPhone/iPad will be added to the Photo Stream and imported into iPhoto.
