i tried to update my i phone 4 to ios 6.1 .. halfway through the update it turned off, now i cant turn on the phone. its saying the phone is stuck in recovery mode and wont let me restore and/or update. can anyone help. thanks in advance

it is trying to restore,
it extracts software then says verifying software, preparing to udate iphone,then the phone switches itself off and back on and then it says "iphone unable to update unknown error 21"

I am having the same problem. went to wirelessly update my iphone 5 to 6.1. it said that it was verifying update and then went into recovery mode?!?!!? Now it says to connect to itunes on screen and wants me to restore it?! I have way to much photos and things on there to restore it without a fight....
I have the same problem. My iPhone 4 is stuck in recovery mode.. I can turn it on and off, but all it shows is the recovery mode. Neither windows nor itunes can detect it when I plug it in.
The problems being discussed are not just phone related ... I have a 'suckered' generation iPad which plain refuses to update to 6.1. It downloads for over an hour, refusing to do anything else but sit downloading then just announces 'download failure' .... !
