12" PowerBook G4 is freezing erratically. Got message which ended in: We are hanging here. It's getting worse. What should I do?

My computer is freezing more and more often. Problem's been going on for about a week. I'm now getting lots of visual crap, too. Including a long error message which ended in

"Panic: We are hanging here". Not sure if the punctuation is right.

Any recommendations? Saw one regarding a NVRAM reset which didn't seem to help the other computer.

Is this the result of a virus? If so, how does one clean the computer. I don't really want to buy a new one.

Sounds like theres a problem with the video card. My adivse. Get a new Mac if it is in fact the Nvidea card yiu need a new logic board and Apple no longer make them. Its considered a vintage machine.

Hello,

Sounds to me like a Kernel Panic. That could have been created by an application running or a hard drive that requires repair. Check your logs to see what's panicking. Try repairing the hard drive by going to Utilities and then Disk Utility. Select your hard drive on the left pane and click repair.
