ipod and itunes don't connect first time

When I connect my iPod touch (4th Generation) to my laptop using the USB cable with iTunes open etc; it doesn't connec the first or second time. I have to constantly plug and unplug the USB cable from both sides to make it connect. How can I make then connect the first time? Answers will be appreciated, thank you x

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reboot the computer

- Try another cable

- Try USB port

- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.

- Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.
