Ipod Nano 7th gen not seen in iTunes but computer sees it

i've done all the steps on the help page. I just don't get it. This is the second one i've tried, took the first one back. I hear the computer beep as it reconizes the usb device, shows up in my computer but not itunes. When i run the diagnostics in itunes, it says no ipod device connected. this is the same pc i sync my iphone and my older 6th gen nano on.
