Mail, Preferences, Account, Outgoing Mail Server SMTP.
Select Edit server list... from the drop down menu, then the Advanced tab
If the SMTP of your provider does not support SSL uncheck the checkbox or change the port number accordingly.

go to mail preferenes>accounts, make sure that outgoing server (SMTP) is not set to none ,and set to your mail server. The port is in accounts under the advanced tab, to the left of the use SSL click box
You can also write down the all the settings of your account and delete it and then recreate it, as this sometimes works.
