How do I transcode Sony EX3 footage in Final Cut Pro X?

I'm a total neophyte at this. I heard I needed to use the Apple Pro Res codec to be able to edit the footage in Final Cut (first I need to synch audio on it in Plural Eyes.) But I can't for the life of me figure out how to find the codec. I tried downloading it for free from the Apple site but my computer told me I had a more recent version on my computer. After many searches I can't find it. Shouldn't it be part of Final Cut Pro X? Actually the Final Cut manual says it supports ZDCAM/EX/HD422. Doesn't that include the EX3 footage?

Final Cut Pro 6, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
